Create Your Own TED-Style Talk through NCSS

When it comes to school safety, teachers have a unique “frontline” perspective to offer. It’s critical for educators to step up and activate their voices to influence policies, procedures, and programs that can make schools safe and healthy.

The National Coalition for Safe Schools wants to help educators develop their ideas on school safety and share them with a broader audience. That’s why we’re excited to offer a limited number of seats in a TED Masterclass with in partnership with National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year program.

TED Masterclass is a program designed to help educators master the art of identifying, developing and presenting their best ideas with each other and the world in the form of TED-style talks. At its core, it is an 11-lesson course delivered via mobile app, based on Head of TED, Chris Anderson’s best-selling book, TED Talks: The Official TED Guide to Public Speaking.

How it Works

Application Process

To be considered for TED Masterclass, we ask that you complete our application form so that we can get a sense of your availability and what you’re interested in speaking about. All applications are due on October 17th, 2019 at 11:59 PM EST.

Applicants will be notified regarding their acceptance on October 25th, 2019. If you are accepted, you will receive an email containing instructions for downloading the TED Masterclass app on your phone. This app contains the Masterclass lessons, tools for tracking your progress, and helpful resources to develop your TED-style talk.

The TED Masterclass is comprised of 11 lessons that will show you the fundamentals of delivering a TED-style talk, from developing your topic idea to honing your public speaking skills. You are welcome to go through the lessons on your own time, but we ask that you commit to completing TED Masterclass in its entirety. Check out a sample timeline here.

During each stage of the course, we will be holding office hours where you can share your progress and get feedback in real time. Office hours will be held through the Masterclass app and are open to all participants.

Participants can complete TED Masterclass either by working solo, or by collaborating with a partner, each developing their own TED-style talk. We strongly recommend completing the Masterclass with a partner as a way to solicit feedback and hold each other accountable.

At the end of the course, you will be given the opportunity to present and videotape your TED-style talk at an event for all local TED Masterclass participants during the week of February 10th, 2020. To be considered for this event, we ask that you complete the Masterclass by the deadline listed below. Participating in this event is optional, but strongly encouraged.

TED Masterclass is being offered for free by National Life Group’s LifeChanger of the Year program as a way to help educators elevate their ideas. There is no cost to participate.
